We were asked to create a Travel Guide website for Andritsaina, a beautiful but less known destination in Greece. The goals of the website were to inform, showcase the charms of the place, and promote Andritsaina as a travel destination for internationals and Greeks alike.
The website needed to provide information on many different topics, such as activities, attractions, monuments, restaurants, accommodation, and more.
The style and feel needed to be both modern and friendly. It needed to convey that this is a modernized place, not stuck in the past.
Our approach
Design
The design of the website is minimalistic. Simplicity, plenty of white space and few colors make the UI easy to process. Navigation is easy, and there is no visual overload, despite the large amount of information. In addition, this simplicity captures the desired modern feel.
At the same time, visual hierarchy and design consistency increase ease of use, and make the website look trustworthy. The visual language uses colorful words and icons, bright colors, rounded corners and smooth shadows to give a friendly vibe.
Organizing Information
One of the challenges was how to organize the information, so users can group together related attractions or activities. For example, how can a user that’s visiting a specific area, easily find all the relevant points of interest in that area, without missing anything.
We created a number of systems to achieve that. We built an “excursions” page with some ready-made combinations of things to do and places to go to. Suggestions include activities, restaurants, museums, hikes and monuments, all combined logically and based on location.
In the category pages, we set up a filter that organizes the various activities and attractions based on proximity to well known landmarks.
To make sure visitors are aware of the primary landmarks and their relative location, we created an interactive map, with handmade illustrations. Users can click on a landmark to learn more about it.
Responsive Design
The website is fully responsive and works flawlessly on all devices.
